Brynjar Þór Jónasson serves as head of office for planning and building matters at Reykjavík City and also holds the combined position of planning and Building Commissioner.

The office for planning and building matters operates three divisions: planning matters, building matters, and improvements and information matters. The improvements and information matters division includes land information and surveying services.

Brynjar brings extensive experience in management, operations and human resources, as well as planning and building matters. He holds a BSc degree in construction engineering from Reykjavík University, an MSc degree in planning from the Agricultural University of Iceland and an MPA degree in public administration from the University of Iceland. He is also a carpenter and master carpenter. He previously served as director of environmental and property affairs for Ísafjörður and director of planning and environmental affairs for Seltjarnarnes. In recent years, he has served as Building Commissioner for Reykjavík.
