Bringing Christmas spirit to the community with public Advent performances

As in previous years, the National Theater is hosting public Advent performances throughout Reykjavík in December. National Theater actors will perform and sing throughout the city, with more than 20 performances scheduled in total.

The performances will take place at work and activity centers, community centers, youth centers, nursing homes, and day care centers throughout Reykjavík City. Each performance lasts about 30 minutes. The performances are especially intended for those who cannot easily leave their homes, bringing the Christmas spirit directly to them from the National Theater.

The National Theater began offering these Advent performances in partnership with the Reykjavík City Department of Welfare during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that required new ways to enjoy and share culture. Back then, actors traveled the city in the "Advent Bus," performing outside nursing homes and youth centers. The performances were an immediate hit. They moved indoors once restrictions were lifted, and the number of participating locations has steadily grown.

The performances are scheduled for the following dates and locations, and all are open to the public.
