The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration will pour concrete for a new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut this weekend. Breiðholtsbraut between Jaðarsel and Vatnsendahvarf will be closed to all traffic during the concrete pour to ensure the safety of drivers and construction crews. The road will be closed from 1 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10. The road will remain open for emergency vehicles. The bridge is part of the new Arnarnesvegur between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut.

Overnight closures to follow

Following that work, this same section will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. starting Monday, Nov. 10, for up to 10-14 days for safety reasons. Driving on newly poured concrete creates serious safety hazards for both drivers and construction workers in the area.

Four-meter height restriction

When traffic is allowed under the bridge again, height restrictions will initially be set at four meters while the concrete gains strength. After that, the maximum cargo height will be 4.2 meters according to regulations. Officials stress that contractors and transport companies must respect the height restrictions.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the construction work. Drivers are urged to show consideration and patience during the project.
