Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir broke ground on 133 new homes at Ártúnshöfði. This represents the first phase of developing a new district where up to 20,000 residents are expected to live once development is finished.

Ártúnshöfði, or Höfði, is currently one of Reykjavík's largest development areas where the plan is to create a modern neighborhood with a mix of homes, shops, services and jobs. When the neighborhood is fully built, it will house up to 20,000 residents. Five plots are already under construction and well underway, including at Eirhöfði, Stálhöfði, Breiðhöfði and Gjúkabryggjur, where a total of 433 homes are being built, with 215 of them developed by housing associations.

The development of Ártúnshöfði places strong emphasis on proximity to natural gems like Elliðaárdalur and the waterfront, as well as convenient public transportation with two planned CityLine stations in the neighborhood. This will make Borgarhöfði an attractive location for people of all ages, where nature and city life come together in an accessible way.

"It's very exciting to see Höfði taking shape, and this development is a major step toward creating a new and vibrant urban neighborhood. Thousands of homes will be built here, offering residents outstanding quality of life close to nature, services and jobs," said Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The first homes in the area will be delivered this summer.
