Ágúst Ólafur Ágústsson named new political advisor to the mayor

Ágúst Ólafur Ágústsson has been hired as political advisor to mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir.

Ágúst Ólafur is a former member of parliament and economic advisor to the prime minister. He served on the board of governors of the Central Bank of Iceland for four years and chaired parliament's business committee, the Prime Minister’s Committee on European Affairs, and the Senior Citizens’ Building Fund.

He worked as a specialist at United Nations headquarters in New York and has recently pursued doctoral studies in public administration. He has also taught at the University of Iceland while providing consulting services for organizations including the Icelandic Nurses Association, a research center for creative industries, and Ljósið.

Ágúst holds degrees as a lawyer, economist and public administration specialist and serves on the boards of the Icelandic Animal Welfare Association and the European Movement.

Ágúst is married to Jóhanna Bryndís Bjarnadóttir, a dentist and former chair of the Icelandic Dental Association.

Ágúst Ólafur will begin work at the Office of the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer in Reykjavík City Hall on June 13.

Katrín M. Guðjónsdóttir has requested to be released from her position.
