Who wants to operate a Ferris wheel in Reykjavík?

Parísarhjól í Reykjavíkurhöfn - unnin mynd

Reykjavík City is seeking partners to operate a Ferris wheel at Miðbakki in Reykjavík Harbor as an exciting addition to the city's diverse urban life. Interested parties have until March 22 to submit proposals to athafnaborgin@reykjavik.is.

The project originated from a City working group's initiative on marine-related experiences, which presented numerous ideas on how to improve residents' quality of life and public health in a report published last fall.

The Ferris wheel will be open during the summer season. The City's advertisement specifies that a potential operator will cover all costs for installing and operating the Ferris wheel, while the City's contribution to the partnership will be use of Associated Icelandic Ports' lot for a predetermined period. The area the City could provide for the project is 725 square meters, which should accommodate a 20-meter-long trailer with the Ferris wheel. The height limit is 30 meters. The advertisement also requires that the Ferris wheel and other equipment withstand Icelandic conditions, including wind and earthquakes.
