Innovation in Reykjavík. The Startup Social harvest celebration takes place at Reykjavík City Hall on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m., where this year's participants will present their ideas and their hard work from the past several months. 

The event is open to everyone in City Hall's Tjarnarsalur, offering a great opportunity to meet entrepreneurs solving today's most pressing challenges. The following startups will present their work from the Startup Social incubator:

  • ALDA Clinical Technologies: Developing a natural language processing tool for the early diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases and speech disorders in smaller languages.
  • Animara: Designing functional, stylish clothing for disabled people with motor impairments that promotes independence and reduces the burden on caregivers.
  • CHEMeFuel: Developing energy-dense biofuels from waste materials and green methanol to support sustainable aviation and reduce carbon emissions.
  • CodonRed: Screening for mutations and damage in genetic material.
  • Heillaspor Center: Working to establish a center in Iceland for the early treatment of eating disorders.
  • Hvað nú?: Helping bereaved people navigate the aftermath of losing a loved one by making information and counseling more accessible.
  • Námsheimar: An interactive learning platform with assignments that expand teachers' toolkits, spark student engagement, and build skills for the future.
  • NúnaTrix: Creating educational video games for children undergoing medical procedures to reduce anxiety and improve health literacy.
  • Textílbarinn: Collecting and selling unused textiles while teaching repair and upcycling skills to reduce waste.
  • Velferðalag: Aiming to improve well-being and raise public awareness through positive interventions grounded in positive psychology.

1:05 p.m. — Opening address, Dr. Einar Stefánsson, entrepreneur and board member of Oculis

1:15 p.m. — Final presentations by startups

Panel discussion — Elva Rakel Jónsdóttir, executive director of Festa; Haukur Hafsteinsson, chief engineer at Marel; and Melkorka Sigríður Magnúsdóttir, Iceland Innovation Week

2:50 p.m. — Address and award presentation, Alexandra Briem, chair of Reykjavík City's Digital Council

Moderator: Sveinn Kjarval, Director of Events at Marel

Light refreshments will follow the program.

Collaboration

Startup Social is a collaborative initiative among the University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, and the University of Akureyri, with additional partnerships through MITdesignX, where MIT experts share their knowledge with participants. Participants received education and training from Icelandic and international experts in social affairs and innovation, along with sessions from experienced mentors. Reykjavík City and Marel support the program.
