The studded tire rate in Reykjavík mirrors last year's numbers, according to a mid-November count.

Observers found that just under a third of vehicles utilized studded tires. Reykjavík City recommends quality winter tires to reduce pollution, minimize noise, and prevent wear on streets. 

The City calculates the ratio of studded to non-studded tires on vehicles in Reykjavík six times throughout the winter. The count occurred on Nov. 13th Results show that 29% of vehicles had studded tires, while 71% used other options. 

This studded tire rate aligns with last year's figure of 28.2%. Two years ago (2022), the rate climbed slightly to 33.9%. Three years ago (2021), it reached a

considerably higher
39.6%, while four years ago (2020), it matched current levels at 29.5%. With a mild winter in Reykjavík so far, officials encourage vehicle owners to choose quality winter tires. 

The Automobile Association of Iceland's winter tire survey found that certain non-studded tires outperform studded models. In the non-studded tire category, four manufacturers stood out, claiming the top spots by a noticeable margin. The Goodyear Ultragrip Ice 3 took first place with 92 points. The Continental Viking Contact 8 secured second place with 90 points, while the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 earned third with 87 points. The Michelin X-Ice Snow took fourth place with 83 points.Winter tire information
