Bjarg Housing Foundation will build 40 rental units on a large lot at Safamýri and Háaleitisbraut. Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson, alongside representatives from Bjarg Housing Foundation, the Icelandic Confederation of Labour, BSRB, and the contractor, broke ground today.

If plans stay on track, the units will be ready in May 2026, and Bjarg Housing Foundation expects to open applications in summer 2025.

Two four-story multi-family residences will be built.  Units will range from two to five bedrooms. The location offers convenient access to transportation, services, main roads, schools, and preschools. Pets will be allowed in some of the units.

The project is designed by A2F and Gríma arkitektar. Ferill verkfræðistofa, Kriston raflagnahönnun, and ÍSTAK are handling construction.
