Seeking Reykjavík City staff for welfare services backup team

Vitinn við Sæbraut

Reykjavík City is now seeking city staff to join the City's backup team to provide temporary support for welfare services. Department of Welfare workplaces are facing staffing challenges due to COVID-19 related sick leave or temporary quarantine absences for staff. Some workplaces are expected to face severe staffing shortages for these reasons over the next two weeks.

The backup team consists of staff who can step in and temporarily take on different tasks or jobs to maintain legally mandated services in the welfare department. Staff register for the backup team in consultation with their immediate supervisor

The City is seeking people who could work in services for disabled people, at nursing homes, in home care services and in services for homeless people. Tasks include helping individuals with daily living activities, such as assistance with dressing, getting up in the morning and going to bed in the evening, help with eating, and assistance with household tasks. This also involves social interaction and help with recreational activities. Experience in welfare service work is helpful but by no means required. The City is primarily seeking staff who are interested and able to support this effort.

Staff willing to take on other tasks temporarily will continue at their current salary terms unless they take on work that generally receives higher pay or if the work exceeds their normal obligations. This may apply when staff work more hours or handle evening or weekend shifts if that is not part of the staff member's employment arrangement.
