Guardians of disabled children can apply for transportation service for activities like leisure, medical appointments, physical therapy, or to address social isolation. Children under 6 must always travel with an adult. Pant handles transportation service for disabled children.

Which children are eligible for transportation service?

To qualify for this service, a child needs legal residence in Reykjavík and must meet one or more of these requirements:

  • Be mobility impaired and use a wheelchair.
  • Cannot use public transportation due to a disability.
  • Be blind.

Children under six must always travel with an adult, and if they need a car seat, the guardian is responsible for providing it.

How do I apply for the service?

You can apply for transportation service for a child in your custody online through My Pages.

You can also visit your local center and complete an application.

What happens next?

We review applications based on eligibility criteria and the child's ability to use other transportation options. A child can receive transportation service for part of the year when needed.

You will receive written notice about whether your application was approved or denied.

If the application is denied and you believe special circumstances warrant an exception to the rules, you can submit an appeal to the Welfare Council appeals committee.

My transportation service was approved — what's next?

Once your transportation service is approved, contact Pant, which provides the service.
