People with reduced mobility who have difficulty getting to and from public parking may be eligible for a parking card. Parking cards allow you to park in specially marked spaces for people with reduced mobility and to park for free in paid outdoor parking.
Parking with this sign is called P-park.
They are intended exclusively for holders of parking cards for people with reduced mobility.
You can apply for a parking card at island.is. First you request a medical certificate that your doctor submits electronically to the district commissioner. You will then apply and specify whether to use a photo from your driver's license or upload a new one. You'll also need to decide whether to pick the card up at your chosen district commissioner office or have it sent to your home.
The application is considered and the parking card is issued if the application meets all the requirements. The processing time is 3 to 5 business days by mail, but 1 to 3 business days if you pick it up from any of the district commissioner offices. After the application is submitted online, it can be accessed on My Pages at island.is.
Parking cards are issued for a specified period, up to a maximum of 10 years and not less than 6 months.
If you do not have an electronic ID, you can download a PDF application (IS) for parking cards here. Please note that a medical certificate must be available before submitting an application.
Electronic IDs can be applied for at Auðkenni service locations.
