Reykjavík City is providing a free two-month Strætó Public Transport subscription to children born between 2010 and 2014 with legal residence in Reykjavík. Applications open May 18th

Beginning Monday, May 18, guardians of children born between 2010 and 2014 with legal residence in Reykjavík can apply for a complimentary two-month Strætó Public Transport subscription through Reykjavík City's My Pages portal. This limited-term pilot program may eventually become a permanent offering. Younger children already ride the city bus for free.

The application form for the free two-month Strætó Public Transport subscription will remain open from May 18 through June 30, 2026. Children holding an active Strætó Public Transport subscription can also have two extra months added to their current pass, though a separate application must be submitted using the same form on Reykjavík City's My Pages portal.

On the morning of Monday, May 18, guardians of eligible Reykjavík children will receive a notification from island.is detailing further instructions and providing a link to the application form.

This initiative supports Reykjavík City's broader efforts to expand public transit access for children and young people, foster independent mobility, and reduce driving burdens on parents managing school, sports, and after-school activities.

Additional information will be published on the Reykjavík City website on Monday.
