Swimmingpools in Reykjavik and the greater Reykjavik area will remain open according to schedule for the time being despite a ban of public events.

 

Steam baths and saunas will however be closed, as well as some hot tubs and jacuzzis. The swimming pool slides will be closed as well.

However, the rules and recommendations of the Icelandic Civil Defence regarding restrictions of numbers of guests attending will be followed closely, which means that fewer lockers will be used to meet directions on necessary distance between guests in the locker-rooms. The same rules adhere to distance between people inside the showers, around the towel racks, and distance inside of the pools.

More frequent visits of children are expected in the pools during this time as the compulsory schools and preschools will have limited opening hours. Swimming-lessons will not be allowed until March 23rd according to rules issued by The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland.

There will be increased cleaning and hygiene routine carried out in the swimming pools; the pool staff will disinfect and clean all surfaces regularly - benches, tables, cupboards, keys, soap dispensers, toilets and the like. Then guests will be asked to respect the recommendation of the Director of Communicable Diseases in regards to safe distance, which is approximately two meters apart in dressing rooms, showers and tubs. Swimming exercise for seniors are not allowed for the time being.

Decisions regarding the opening of the swimming pools will be reviewed on a regular basis and evaluated on the basis of mitigation considerations.

Ski areas in neighbourhoods

The ski lifts will be open when the weather permits. People are reminded to try to keep safe distance between them in as they wait in lines and in the slopes.

The ski areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell 

The ski areas will be open when weather and skiing conditions permit.

Ski rentals and restaurants will be closed but will offer packed lunches and toiletries. School groups will not be allowed in accordance with the rules, directions and recommendations of the Icelandic Civil Defence. Guests are reminded and encouraged to keep their distance while waiting in lines and in the ski slopes, and asked to use their common sense regarding prevention measures within the ski resorts.

Geothermal Beach at Nauthólsvík

The geothermal beach will be closed.

Laugardalur Ice Rink

Will remain closed to the public, but attempts will be made to organize training sessions in accordance with instructions and directions from the Civil Defence.

Family Garden and Zoo

The Family Garden and Zoo in Laugardalur will be open but guests will be reminded and encouraged to keep their spaces apart during visits and in some areas of the Zoo there will be number restictions in accordance to the rules and regulations of disease preventions. The restaurant will be closed, but restrooms will remain open. There will be an accommodation for people to bring their own snacks.
