Swimming-pools, sport centres and skiing resorts close

Covid-19

""

The Icelandic Minister of Health has decided, in accordance with new guidelines from the Director of Communicable Diseases, to limit even further the restrictions on mass gatherings in an attempt to slow down the rapid spread of Covid-19 in the community.

Events where people come together will be limited to 20 people, instead of 100 before.  Wherever people gather, for whatever activity, it must be ensured that all individuals keep at least 2 meters apart.

These instructions have the following effect on the service of all municipalities within the greater capital area:

Swimmingpools closed

Swimmingpools in Reykjavík will close from 24 March. Notice that all 6 and 12 month admission cards will be prolonged for the time the pools are closed.

Family Park and Zoo will also be closed and the Geothermal beach as well as Reykjavík's Ice Rink and all Reykjavík's skiing resorts.

Compulsory schools and preschools will remain open, but those parents and guardians who for some reason want to keep their children at home must announce their leave of absence and at the same time assume responsibility for their children's home-schooling.

All other municipal services will remain intact as far as possible.
