Covid-19

""

All museums will be closed from 24. march because of the tightened lockdown rules issued by the minister of health.

Libraries will not fine users for books and objects that are not returned in this lockdown period and the issued value time of the Culture Pass (Menningarkort) will be prolonged.

Inside activity of the museums will however continue and the staff will answer inquiries and work on research and preparation of new exhibitions which will be on the calendar later this year.

The lockdown means that all libraries will be closed in Reykjavík, The Citey Archives, The Reykjavík Art Museum at Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstadir and Ásmundarsafn will be closed. All branches of Reykjavík City Museum will be closed; The Settlement Exhibition, Maritime Museum, Museum of Photography Museum and Árbær Open Museum.

The websites of the museums are a myriad of information about exhibitions, works of art, old photographs, research papers and museum artefacts.

The Reykjavik Art Museum website has material which is perfect for remote teaching and tomorrow the museum will publish  artwork of the day on all its media. We also want to point out the app Reykjavik Art Walk which is the perfect companion on walking tours around the city.

The Reykjavík Museums are planning to transmit more art and culture to the citizens which will be introduced in near future.
