Welfare Council awards grants to projects supporting vulnerable children

The Welfare Council awarded its annual grants from the Reykjavík Municipal Treasury yesterday to welfare projects. This year, the council focused on projects supporting vulnerable children, and eleven organizations or individuals received grants.

The grant committee included city councilors Guðný Maja Riba and Helgi Áss Grétarsson, along with Rannveig Einarsdóttir, Director of Welfare. The grant committee assessed the applications based on seven criteria and scored them accordingly.

In total, the grants awarded today amounted to just over 41 million króna. Six organizations received one-year service contracts, while three were awarded three-year contracts.

Two received general grants:

Ásdís Birna Bjarkadóttir for a book for children of prisoners - 600,000 króna.

Vinaskákfélagið for the project Everyone Can Play Chess – 300,000 króna.

Six organizations received one-year service contracts:

Hugarafl NGO for user-led activities based on empowerment and a recovery-focused approach – 3,000,000 króna.

Katarzyna Beata Kubis for a support group for foreign parents of disabled children – 1,500,000 króna.

Listvinnzlan for Listorkuver – 3,000,000 kr.

Mother's Support Committee of Reykjavík for Assistance to Those in Need – 2,900,000 kr.

Okkar heimur for family workshops – 2,000,000 kr.

Sjónarhóll counseling center for counseling and support – 3,000,000 kr.

Three organizations received three-year service contracts:

Bergið Headspace for counseling and support for 12-25 year olds – 5,000,000 króna per year for three years.

Foreldrahús Parent House for alcohol and substance abuse counseling – 10,000,000 króna per year for three years.

Memmm Play for the Open Preschool – 10,000,000 króna per year for three years.
