The Reykjavík City Library has launched a new website. The site continues to help service users access library services effortlessly, featuring a modern, clean design and shorter navigation paths.

While the new City Library site features updated visuals and content layouts, its core purpose remains the same: providing a clear, accurate picture of everything available across all eight branches in Reykjavík.

The streamlined site now directs service users to borgarbokasafn.leitir.is to log in to My Pages. On this platform, service users can:

  • Log in using an ID number and password or an electronic ID
  • Place holds
  • Renew loans
  • View their borrowing history

Service users can also search the catalog at borgarbokasafn.leitir.is. Online library card registration, renewals, and fine payments are temporarily unavailable, but work is underway to restore these options. In the meantime, library staff continue handling these services efficiently in person at any branch.

A needs assessment preceded the launch, guiding development work throughout the winter. Findings from an initial workshop shaped the project, emphasizing accessibility, brightness, and open space. The Web Division project manager oversaw the initiative, bringing in City specialists as needed. Reload managed development and design in consultation with Reykjavík City Library designers and the digital product design team at Reykjavík City. Staff from the Reykjavík City Library's communication and innovation division also helped build and prepare the site.

Minor fixes and additions are still underway, including upcoming search and filtering features for the events listing. Visitors are encouraged to explore the updated website and take advantage of the wide range of services the Reykjavík City Library offers.
