Two educational events focusing on urban nature are scheduled for September.
The educational program includes guided walks — one focusing on Tjörnin's biota will take place tomorrow on Icelandic Language Day. Later in the month, a guided walk at the Reykjavík Botanic Garden will explore the beautiful colors of fall.
Icelandic Nature Day: Life in Tjörnin
Tjörnin is one of the city's most iconic landmarks and hosts a rich variety of wildlife and plants. But how has life in and around Tjörnin evolved over the centuries?
On Icelandic Nature Day, tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m., biologist Benedikt Traustason will lead a walk exploring how Tjörnin and its biota have transformed over the past thousand years. The walk departs from the main entrance of Reykjavík City Hall.
Fall colors in the garden — an educational walk at the Reykjavík Botanic Garden
"How do we bring beautiful colors to the garden just before winter?" is the theme of a guided educational walk scheduled for Sept. 29 at the Reykjavík Botanic Garden.
This colorful excursion will explain why plants develop fall hues while offering practical advice on selecting and arranging them to achieve the richest, most varied colors in your garden.
The tour begins at the main entrance of the botanic garden.
Both walks are free and open to the public.
