Reykjavík City Hall reflected in the pond.

A new employee survey among Reykjavík City staff shows 89% of employees are satisfied with their jobs.

The results show that overall, Reykjavík City employees see their workplace as both supportive and ambitious. Morale is high, and employees are pleased with their job flexibility. In addition, 86% of employees say they would recommend their workplace to friends.

The City took part in the Institution of the Year survey, which was given to employees in November and December of last year. Institution of the Year is a joint project between Sameyki, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Reykjavík City and many other institutions. In total, the survey was sent to about 36,000 participants at the national government and Reykjavík City, with a 64% response rate among city employees.

Overall, the survey results are very positive, with the City showing improvement in all nine areas measured. 89% of Reykjavík City employees feel good about their jobs, 92% believe all employees are treated equally regardless of age, gender, origin, sexual orientation, or philosophical views, and 88% are proud of their workplace. Employees also report feeling less stress.

Employee satisfaction with management is high, as 84% believe their workplace is well-managed, 85% express complete trust in their managers, and 86% report receiving support and encouragement from their immediate supervisors.

Since 2005, Reykjavík City has regularly assessed employee attitudes toward the work environment, communication, and management practices, using these insights to enhance the workplace for its talented and ambitious workforce. The findings indicate that recent initiatives have been successful, but there are still opportunities for further improvement. Upcoming workplace presentations will share site-specific results with employees, establish goals, and develop action plans.
