Opera Days in Reykjavík run from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1. During the festival, the city becomes an opera stage.

Opera Days is a festival and platform for classical singers and their collaborators to develop and strengthen Iceland’s opera, vocal music and musical theater scene.

The festival aims to present high-quality and diverse events at both conventional and unconventional venues; support innovation and experimentation; strengthen career opportunities for singers and their collaborators; encourage domestic and international partnerships; and welcome both new and longtime audiences.

Voices electrify spaces

This year’s Opera Days will explore electrifying energy from several perspectives. We live in a constantly connected world, charged with information, stimulation, conflict and uncertainty, but also beauty, creativity, closeness and hope. Energy can be both positive and negative — it can bring people together, push them apart or set something unexpected in motion.

Classical voices transform the spaces where they resonate. They can be big or small, soft or powerful, delicate, beautiful and vulnerable — even fierce or overwhelming.

When live voices resonate in a space for others, connections form and something begins to stir — the mind, emotions, memories and awareness.

At the festival, we invite guests to disconnect from everyday distractions for a while, plug into classical singing in its various manifestations and experience how unamplified voices electrify spaces.
