Reykjavík City published a draft noise action plan on its Consultation Portal, created to meet EU Environmental Noise Directive requirements. The initiative aims to lessen noise impacts on the health and quality of life of every city resident, particularly in neighborhoods facing severe traffic noise.

The strategy outlines various noise-reduction steps, including installing sound barriers, improving planning, lowering speed limits, and promoting sustainable transportation like walking, biking, and public transit.

Officials will prioritize locations where noise significantly disrupts locals, especially when sound levels exceed thresholds established by regulation. The City also intends to protect and expand designated quiet areas throughout Reykjavík.

The draft is open for review on the Consultation Portal, inviting community members and stakeholders to submit a brief remark before officials present the final document.
