Culture grants — support for a diverse cultural life

The cultural council's grants and partnership agreements support a vibrant, professional and diverse cultural life in Reykjavík, aligning with the city's current cultural policy.

During its first meeting, the new cultural council appointed a cross-party review group to examine Reykjavík City's grant system, aiming to simplify the process, increase transparency and better align it with Reykjavík's cultural policy.

Grassroots grants will now specifically target younger artists and newcomers to the arts, generally ranging from 200,000 to 800,000 ISK. Project grants will range from 800,000 to 3 million ISK, and partnership agreements will range from 1.5 million to 6.5 million ISK.

The city is simplifying the structure for smaller grants to make them more accessible, particularly for young, emerging artists.

The cultural council appoints an advisory expert panel to evaluate grant applications. The council then allocates grants and approves partnership agreements based on the panel's assessment.

Applications for 2027 City Grants are now open, with a Sept. 30 deadline. Submit applications electronically through Reykjavík City's My Pages.
