Work on Arnarnesvegur between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut is back in full swing after the Christmas break and making good progress. Workers are finishing the new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut, continuing construction on a new pedestrian bridge over Arnarnesvegur, and building new underpasses at Rjúpnavegur.

Crews are currently putting the finishing touches on the new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut, which was poured in early November. Workers are removing the formwork from the northbound roadway, which has been closed since the summer. Traffic is expected to be moved onto the roadway around the end of the month, at which point height restrictions will be lifted.

Bridge over Dimma open

Work is also underway on the formwork for the new pedestrian bridge over Arnarnesvegur, located across from Turnahvarf. The bridge is scheduled to be poured before Easter.

Many key projects have already been completed. Most notably, the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Dimma is complete and already in use. Several sections of Breiðholtsbraut have been paved, as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths in Elliðaárdalur.

Winter Garden under development

Excavated material from the construction has been moved to Reykjavík City's Winter Garden. The Winter Garden is under development where the ski slope is located at Jafnasel. Most of the area has also been seeded.

Construction on Arnarnesvegur and related projects is scheduled to be completed in November 2026. Arnarnesvegur phase 3 is part of the arterial road projects under the Transportation Charter.
