Children at Maríuborg capped off January with a festival of light
At Maríuborg, each month has its own color, and in January, black was the featured color. January is one of the darkest months of the year, making it perfect for using the darkness to create a magical world of lights, shadows and brilliant colors.
Preschool transformed into a captivating world
The dark January days ended with a flourish when the preschool held a special flashlight day that transformed the school into a captivating world of light. The school's main area became an interactive space where children and teachers could explore the wonders of light at their own pace.
The night sky was projected onto the ceiling, and children could watch planets and stars float overhead. Light tables, scarves and colorful blocks waited on the floor, and in the block corner children found a rich sensory experience where they could play with glitter, ribbons and other shimmering materials that encouraged creativity, curiosity and playful exploration.
Children discover light and shadow
Teachers say the joy was contagious and that it's priceless to watch children discover what's possible with light and shadow and make new connections through play and exploration. These kinds of experiences reflect Maríuborg's commitment to letting children experience, discover, experiment and play on their own terms in a safe and creative environment.
The day ended with a spectacular display of lights where children and teachers enjoyed themselves together and said goodbye to January with smiles all around. Everyone is looking forward to welcoming February and the longer days ahead.
