Child Prosperity Week runs throughout the capital area with a wide-ranging program and educational activities from March 9-13, 2026. The goal is to emphasize the importance of coordinated efforts by everyone who works with children and young people and to highlight the positive changes that have happened since the Child Prosperity Act.

Focus on staff in school and recreational activities

In Reykjavík, this year's educational programming focuses primarily on staff in school and recreational activities. Reykjavík Child Protection Services and Reykjavík City centers handle the organization, providing services, information, support and counseling on welfare, school, and recreational issues throughout the city. The agenda includes courses and workshops for prosperity liaisons in all the city's preschools and elementary schools, case managers and counselors at centers, and presentations on the Child Prosperity Act and how it's being implemented in schools and recreation centers.

The right help, at the right time, from the right people

The Child Prosperity Act, which took effect in 2022, introduced a new approach that puts the child first and ensures that services and support are integrated across all systems. The goal is for children and their families to have easy access to the services they need and to get the right help at the right time from the right people.

Throughout the week, videos will appear on Reykjavík City's TikTok account, where young people in the city share their views on prosperity and talk about where they turn when something goes wrong in their lives.

Parents can attend short lunch presentations that Primary Care of the Capital Area hosts at noon every day during Child Prosperity Week. These sessions will cover topics like screen time, relationships and communication, children's anxiety issues and more.
