Construction on Arnarnesvegur between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut is progressing on schedule. Crews are installing guardrails and sound barriers on the new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut. Workers are building the foundation for a new pedestrian bridge over Arnarnesvegur. New underpasses are under construction at Rjúpnavegur, and crews are installing streetlights along Arnarnesvegur. About 50 people are working on the project, including carpenters, equipment operators, construction workers and supervisors.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut, installing guardrails and sound barriers to separate the roadway from the pedestrian and bike path.

Work is also underway on the foundation for the new pedestrian bridge over Arnarnesvegur near Turnahvarf. The bridge is scheduled to be poured before Easter.

New underpasses are being built at Rjúpnavegur beneath Arnarnesvegur. The underpasses are partially built with precast concrete sections that are already in place. Workers are now finishing the concrete sections and building forms for retaining walls at the ends of the underpasses.

Streetlights being installed

Along Arnarnesvegur between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut, crews are placing fill material, installing streetlights and finishing stormwater pipes. Along the pedestrian and bike path being built east of the road, workers are installing streetlights and preparing the base layer for asphalt.

Many key projects have already been completed. The new pedestrian and cycling bridge over Dimma is already finished and open for use. Several sections of Breiðholtsbraut have been paved, as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths in Elliðaárdalur.

The Arnarnesvegur construction project and related infrastructure work is expected to be completed in November 2026. Arnarnesvegur phase 3 is part of the arterial road projects under the Transportation Charter.
