Updated traffic light control at Suðurlandsbraut and Reykjavegur intersection

Pedestrian and bicycle lights

To improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, traffic light control at the Suðurlandsbraut and Reykjavegur intersection will be updated Thursday, May 15, 2025. During the work, traffic lights will be inactive from 7pm to 8pm.

The changes include installing a radar sensor on the right turn lane from Suðurlandsbraut onto Reykjavegur. A new triple light signal (red/yellow/green) will also be installed to replace the simple green light currently in place.

These improvements will allow better traffic control and ensure pedestrians and cyclists have safe access across the streets. The traffic light control will then be reset so vehicles in the right turn lane receive an independent green light, which will not operate at the same time as the green light for pedestrians and cyclists.

After the change, right turn traffic will receive a green light at the same time as traffic coming from Reykjavegur onto Suðurlandsbraut.
