University of Iceland and Department of Education & Youth renew partnership
The University of Iceland and Reykjavík City's Department of Education & Youth have renewed their partnership agreement for professional development, research and innovation in education. The original agreement was signed in 2019 and has now been renewed for the second time.
Connecting schools and the academic community
The agreement supports implementation of Reykjavík's Education Policy, "Let Our Dreams Come True," for the 2025-2027 period. Among the goals is integrating school and recreational activities, school support services and the academic community to advance learning and teaching methods. The agreement also strengthens innovation in education and professional development for staff in preschools, primary schools and recreational programs.
The agreement also includes some integration of operations, facilities and services between NýMennt from the School of Education and Mixtúra, the Department of Education & Youth's makerspace and technology lab.
Supporting development and innovation
The three-year action plan emphasizes:
- Diverse professional development and promoting learning opportunities.
- Collaborative research and innovation focusing on prosperity, literacy and digital transformation.
- Development of a makerspace at Saga emphasizing STEAM education and social innovation.
- Looking ahead and supporting various development initiatives and innovation in the education system.
Key partners from the Department of Education & Youth include: Education Innovation Center, Mixtúra and the department's professional development team. From the University of Iceland's School of Education: Innovation Center of Education and NýMennt, which represents innovation and the education community.
