Reykjavík City joins "Your Icelandic matters" campaign
At its Nov. 26, 2025 meeting, Reykjavík City's Digital Council approved the city's participation in Almannarómur's data collection campaign "Your Icelandic matters."
The campaign aims to strengthen the Icelandic language in digital solutions. The campaign gathers general texts from businesses and institutions. This data will be added to a large Icelandic corpus, which helps improve Icelandic speech and text applications, including the technology behind translations, voice control and chatbots. Better data leads to better technology that serves Icelandic society.
"This is a unique opportunity to support the development of Icelandic technology and ensure that Icelandic continues to thrive in the digital world," says Alexandra Briem, chair of the Digital Council. "Through our participation, we can contribute diverse vocabulary from the city's operations and support continued development of language technology that benefits both residents and businesses."
Reykjavík City believes its participation is a vital contribution to securing a strong future for the Icelandic language in the digital era.
