Construction at Brákarborg facility delayed
Brákarborg preschool operations will have to wait longer to move back into the facility on Kleppsvegur. Construction has been underway after building defects were discovered that required further investigation. The inspection found that the roof and building did not meet current load bearing capacity standards.
Unexpected construction delays mean the work will not finish until March 2026, a change from the original schedule.
The project has grown significantly in scope during construction. Removing the concrete layer from the building's roof took longer than planned, and drying the new concrete also took longer than expected. Ensuring the work is high-quality is crucial, and the new concrete and membrane must be allowed sufficient time to dry before the roof is rebuilt. Additional work is also needed to strengthen the basement ceiling slab, along with other unforeseen tasks that have emerged during the project.
