Celebs debuts the Children's Culture Festival 2024 song
There was great excitement in the Hlíðaskóli auditorium today when the band Celebs premiered this year's Children's Culture Festival song, "Spyrja eftir þér."
The song's lyrics are based on Reykjavík children's ideas about democracy
The Children's Culture Festival theme this year is democracy, and fourth graders in Reykjavík worked on democracy projects, as this year marks 80 years since Iceland became a republic. The song is composed by the band Celebs, which consists of siblings from Suðureyri — Valgeir Skorri, Hrafnkell Hugi and Katla Vigdís — and the lyrics are based on the children's responses. The three siblings are known for their colorful stage performances, have a great sense of humor, and are passionate about children's culture.
They said collaborating with the children has been incredibly fun.
"There is so much energy in the children and we can't wait to take the stage at Harpa and perform our song."
Want to ban war and violence, stop selling tobacco and more trips to Tene
Hlíðaskóli students delivered letters to Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson that fourth graders in Reykjavík wrote specifically for him, describing their views on society and what they want to change.
Among the children's wishes are things like banning war and violence, buying food for those in need, peace in the world, stopping tobacco sales, bringing McDonald's back to Iceland, faster elevators in schools and more trips to Tene, to name a few.
"The children get a chance to express their opinions and their wishes matter to us," the mayor said when he received the letters, which numbered well over a hundred. "Coming up is their Children's Culture Festival where we celebrate their culture and the entire program is aimed at the children in the city. This will be a true celebration for five days," said Einar.
