The Parkethöll, ÍR's new gymnasium

Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson dedicated ÍR's impressive new gymnasium at Skógarsel today. The sports hall with a wooden floor, known as the Parkethöll, will serve as the home court for the club's team handball and basketball divisions.

This has been a landmark year for Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur (ÍR). In May, the club dedicated its track and field stadium, and in early August, Reykjavík City resumed operating the Austurberg gymnasium, long the home venue for ÍR's team handball division. This new facility marks another major milestone for ÍR, with neighborhood residents and guests joining the club to celebrate during today's ÍR Day festivities. The Rev. Ólafur Jóhann Borgþórsson, parish priest at Seljakirkja, blessed the facility while guests enjoyed refreshments, socialized, explored the venue, and learned about the club's activities.

The new two-story building spans more than 4,200 square meters. Covering approximately 2,400 square meters, the main floor accommodates a wide array of training and competition, meeting the requirements for competitive team handball and basketball. The facility seats approximately 900 spectators.
