Second phase of construction near Nauthólsvegur and Reykjavík University set to begin
The second phase of infrastructure development near Nauthólsvegur and Reykjavík University (HR) is now underway. Access for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and public transportation will be maintained throughout construction.
The contractor’s work area will expand west of Nauthólsvegur, and Menntasveigur will close and become a construction zone. Temporary walking and biking paths established through the construction area during the first phase will remain in place, and the only change for drivers will be the closure of Menntasveigur, with traffic redirected along temporary roads through the parking lot to the south.
One lane will stay open in each direction, and Strætó Public Transport bus stops will remain in service but may move as work proceeds.
The second phase of construction is scheduled to run from Oct. 30, 2026, to May 1, 2027. Regular updates on traffic changes will be shared as construction progresses.
The project is a joint initiative of Transport for the Capital Area, Reykjavík City and Veitur Utilities. Grafa og grjót ehf. is the contractor, with engineering firm EFLA overseeing the work.
