Reykjavík City Museums reopen

""

All Reykjavík City Museums reopen today, after having been closed for some six weeks.  To celebrate this milestone, the entrance to the museums will be free of charge until 10 May, and Culture Pass and Library Card holders will have their membership prolonged for six more weeks to compensate for the closing period.

The two metre rule of social distancing is still effective, and no more than 50 people will be allowed into each room at the same time.  Special emphasis will be put on cleansing and sanitizing all surface areas, and disinfectants will be easily available to all guests.

This applies to the Settlement Exhibition, Reykjavík Maritime Museum, Árbær Open Air Museum, Reykjavík Museum of Photography, City Libraries and the Reykjavík Art Museum at Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir, and Ásmundarsafn.  The ferry to Viðey will resume its daily summer schedule from Monday 11 May.

The only exemptions are the City Library at Sólheimar which is still under renovation, and the coast guard vessel Óðinn, where rules on social distancing cannot be kept due to lack of space.

Museum staff has made good use of time in recent weeks in organizing and preparing new exhibitions, changing programmes and finding innovative ways of displaying art and collectibles through social media, at bus stops and museum windows.
