Reinventing Cities – International Competition
The City of Reykjavík has been invited to take part in the competition for sustainable development of three underutilized spaces, in the Reinventing Cities project.
An international team will select the best solutions in regards to sustainability and resiliency.
An open seminar was held in City Hall Wednesday 7 March 2018 with the participation of international experts.
The City of Reykjavík is part of the C40 Cities partnership that connects more than 90 of the world’s greatest cities. The C40 is focused on tackling climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens. The current chair of the C40 is the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo; and Michael R.Bloomberg, three-term Mayor of New York City, serves as President of the Board.
Reykjavík was identified as one of 19 cities to participate in the Reinventing Cities competition where three underutilized spaces will be redeveloped within the city. Through this competition, C40 and the participating cities, invite architects, developers, environmentalists, neighbourhood groups, innovators and artists to build creative teams and to compete for the opportunity to transform these sites into new beacons of sustainability and resiliency. They will also have to demonstrate how innovative climate solutions can be achieved in combination with noteworthy architecture and local community benefits.
Open Seminar on Reinventing Cities
Reinventing Cities seminar was held at Reykjavík City Hall, Tjarnargata 11, 7 March.
The seminar was opened by Dagur B. Eggertsson the Mayor of Reykjavík.
