Reykjavík City Actions Against Violence

Reykjavík City is committed to combating all forms of violence.

Reykjavík City's Action Plan Against Violence 2022-2024

Reykjavík City's Action Plan Against Violence provides an overview of the numerous projects that the City undertakes in its work against violence. It also serves as a guide for the City in the fight against violence, ensuring that the listed projects are carried out during the period. The Action Plan was developed by Reykjavík's Violence Prevention Committee, and the City Council approved it on February 1, 2022.

Together Against Violence

In the spring of 2014, the City of Reykjavík agreed to undertake a campaign against domestic violence in partnership with the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, The Women's Center, and the Primary Care of the Capital Area. The partnership should ensure the safety of city residents at home, provide better services to victims and perpetrators, and improve the situation of children exposed to domestic violence.

Service agreements

Reykjavík City has service agreements with The Women's Shelter and Stígamót, grassroots organizations that work with victims of violence. The aim of the service agreements is to provide residents who have suffered violence with support, counseling, and treatment, as well as to enhance education and discussion on the nature and consequences of violence. The City also participates in the operation of Bjarkarhlíð, a center for victims of violence.
