The administration fee for changing services, driving, and registering containers, is 4,300 kr. for each time a change is requested.

Fees for the operation of recycling centers

A recycling facility fee is levied on each dwelling in Reykjavík to cover the City's share of the cost for operating Sorpa’s waste recycling centers.

Waste management fee

Waste management fees are charged under the authority of the second paragraph of Article 23 of Act No. 55/2003 on Waste Management, as amended, and the fifth paragraph of Article 59 of Act No. 7/1998 on Hygiene and Pollution Control, as amended.

Residential waste collection fees depend on the number and size of waste containers for each property, their waste collection frequency, waste type, and the distance containers must be moved for collection.

In multi-owner buildings, the fees are divided according to the ownership percentage of the joint holdership in question cf. Articles 43 and 45 of Act No 26/1994 on Multi-Owner Buildings.

Fees for Sorpa recycling drop-offs and recycling centers are charged as a fixed fee per home.

If containers are added, removed, or the waste collection frequency changes during the year, fees are adjusted from the week the changes take effect. When containers are added or removed, a separate fee is charged for transport and registration.

Waste management fee assessments can be appealed to the appeals committee for environmental and natural resource matters within one month of the assessment date.
