Driving services for older people

Older people who cannot make use of public transport or their own vehicle can use the driving services. You can use driving services to get to your destination, and back home again, whether you need to get to the store, a celebration, or the doctor.

First you apply with Reykjavík City, and then Pant takes care of all communications and provides the driving services.

Am I eligible for driving services?

You can use the driving services if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are 67 or older
  • You are a legal resident of Reykjavík
  • You live independently
  • You do not have access to your own vehicle
  • You cannot use public transport
  • You have a chronic motor disability

How do I apply?

You apply for driving services online using My Pages.

You can also fill out a PDF application and send it to akstur@reykjavik.is or submit it at your district center.

If you need further advice, you can schedule a phone call from a counselor

What happens next?

We will be in touch once you have applied to review your needs and wishes, as well as to request supporting documentation for your application if necessary. Applications are assessed based on the conditions and the applicant's ability to use other travel options.

The applicant will be notified in writing whether an application is accepted or rejected. Responses to online applications are posted on the Driving Services Application Portal.

If your application is denied, and you believe there are exceptional circumstances, you can request a review by the Welfare Council Appeal Board.

What happens after an application is approved?

Once the driving services application is approved, Pant.is provides the services.
