The values of Rauðaborg are joy, respect, and self-empowerment
The preschool is designed based on the American model of an open school and open play space, and it is the first of its kind in Iceland. The children are not limited to a specific area, but they can choose any play area within the building and change it during playtime. Rauðaborg's uniqueness lies in the fact that the entire building is a shared workspace, where children and adults work together in play and activities. Rauðaborg follows the High Scope plan developed by Mary Hohmann, Bernard Banet, and David P. Weikart. The philosophy behind this is that the child develops by actively participating in their own interests, needs, and understandings, and making choices based on their own preferences.

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Rauðaborg Preschool falls under East Center. East Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Árbær, Grafarholt, Grafarvogur, and Kjalarnes and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
The contact person for Rauðaborg is: Þóra Ólafsdóttir Hjartar
