About Ölduselsskóli
Ölduselsskóli is a comprehensive primary school for students from first to tenth grade, located at Öldusel 17, Reykjavík. There are about 500 students and 80 staff members. Ölduselsskóli was founded in the fall of 1975 and is one of Reykjavík City's primary schools. Like other municipal schools, it falls under the Department of Education & Youth and its curriculum is built around the City's school policy and future vision.
Ölduselsskóli's motto is competence, respect, and ambition. Staff and students strive to show ambition in their work, aiming for self-improvement in as many areas as possible, while respecting themselves, others, and the environment.
The Vinaheimar After-School Program is for children in 1st to 4th grade at Ölduselsskóli, and Hólmasel Youth Center offers a variety of fun activities for children and adolescents.

Child prosperity
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.

Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in school activities. All schools in Reykjavík City have an active parent association.
The role of the parent association is to enhance the school's efforts, foster student well-being, and reinforce connections between home and school. Each school's parent association defines its own rules of operation, including the election process for its board and the selection of representatives to the school council. There is much that can be done with the children and by having positive interactions between children and parents in play and team building, it has positive impacts on a student's well-being at school and boosts the students' self-confidence.

Class representatives and class activities
At a meeting with parents, two or more parent representatives from each class are selected. The role of class representatives is to keep track of and contribute to the planning of class work with the aim of fostering communication and friendship within individual classes, as well as reinforcing the relationship between parents in the group. Class representatives and homeroom teachers have a healthy and good relationship.
The role of class representatives is to be liaisons and managers, they:
- participate in the work of the parent association and encourage collaboration with other parents
- organize class entertainment outside school hours so that students and parents can meet
- organize friend groups
- organize parent visits to the class once a school year in consultation with teachers
- create a forum for parents to meet and get to know each other
- attend the parent association's general meeting held at the beginning of the school year
School council
Primary schools must have an active school council that serves as a forum for consultation between the principal and the school community on the school operation. The school council participates in shaping policy for the school and defining its unique character.
A school council shall be composed of nine individuals for terms of two years each: two teacher representatives, one other staff representative from the school in question, two student representatives, and two parent representatives, along with the school principal who directs the school council's activities and is responsible for its establishment. A school council also selects one local community representative to sit on the council or an additional parent representative. In addition, the school principal is required to call a joint meeting of the School Council and the student association board at least once a year.
The role of the council is further detailed in Regulation 1157/2008, and it states that a school council:
- Discusses the school curriculum, operational schedule, operational plan, and other plans related to school operations.
- Discusses planned major changes to school management and operations and provides feedback before final decisions on them are taken.
- Participates in shaping the school's policy and identity and its relationship with the local community.
- Monitors security, housing, facilities, housing conditions, and the overall welfare of students.
- discusses school rules and behavior within the school.
- Discusses matters from the school committee of the municipality, parent association, teachers' meeting, general staff meeting, student association, individuals and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and other parties concerning issues mentioned in this Article, and provides feedback if requested.
- Participates in other projects on behalf of the school committee, subject to the approval of the municipal government.
A school council does not discuss individual issues of students, parents, or school staff.
