Nóaborg Preschool is a four-division preschool that opened in December 1986. Typically, around 74 children are in the preschool at the same time, divided into four age-specific divisions called Sólbakki, Ólátagarður, Saltkráka, and Skarkalagata. The preschool is located on the edge of Miðborg and Hlíðahverfi, just above Hlemmur, making it easy to travel in all directions, whether by foot or by bus.
The Preschool Director is Anna Margrét Ólafsdóttir
Want to know more about Nóaborg? In this very short video, we give a glimpse of the preschool activities. It was made by Erla Stefánsdóttir and Antonía Lárusdóttir for the Department of Education & Youth.
Nóaborg Preschool follows the Reykjavík City Education Policy and the National Preschool Curriculum. In the preschool, we focus on literacy and mathematics, and we also place a strong emphasis on developing children's social skills. The children's phonological awareness is developed using Lubbi's study materials. Nóaborg is also starting to work with the Solution Circle. The preschool is working to become a UNICEF rights school and is focusing specifically on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In the fall of 2024, we plan to enter into Nordplus cooperation with preschools from several countries, focusing specifically on Article 12 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Nóaborg received Reykjavík City's Rainbow Certification in the spring of 2022.
Do you want to know more about the philosophy and daily operations of Nóaborg? In Nóaborg's school curriculum, you'll find detailed information about the school's philosophical emphasis and approach to play, learning, and work.
The operational plan for Nóaborg for the academic year 2022-2023 is being prepared
What's ahead for Nóaborg? In the operational plan, you'll find, among other things, the school's internal and external evaluations for the last year, an improvement plan, the preschool calendar, and much more.
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City preschools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in preschool activities. All Reykjavík City preschools have parent associations and parent councils.
Nóaborg Preschool falls under West Center. West Center provides a wide range of services to the residents of Vesturbær, Miðborg, and Hlíðar and is a comprehensive information source for municipal services. The Center provides welfare services, school services to preschool and primary schools, day care and recreational counseling, and various other services.
The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.
The contact person for Nóaborg is: Ragnheiður Sigurbjörnsdóttir
