About Engjaskóli

Engjaskóli is a primary school in the northern part of Grafarvogur, offering education from 1st to 7th grade. The Reykjavík School and Recreation Council approved changes to the school operation in Grafarvogur, which took effect in 2020-2021. The change was that Vættaskóli and Kelduskóli, which were comprehensive primary schools with students from grades 1 to 10, became three separate schools. Two primary schools for students in grades 1 to 7, that is Engjaskóli and Borgaskóli, and Víkurskóli would become a consolidated school for students in grades 8 to 10.
Engjaskóli's role is to offer diverse and creative learning, supporting all students' holistic development and educating responsible and capable citizens. The goal is for them to become self-sufficient and innovative individuals who can take an active part in society's development and further education. The emphasis is on diverse teaching methods, guidance learning, and team collaboration for staff. The school also pays special attention to health promotion, environmental education, and innovation. We follow the parenting policy "Raising for Responsibility". Engjaskóli adheres to the Reykjavík City's Education Policy “Let Dreams Come True“. The main focus areas of the education policy are social skills, empowerment, literacy, creativity, and well-being.

The after-school program Brosbær operates in Engjaskóli, and the youth center, Vígyn, offers diverse and enjoyable activities for middle-grade students.

Child prosperity

The Act on the Integration of Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity has come into effect. The goal is to ensure children and guardians receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right parties. Families and children in need of early support have guaranteed access to a contact person in the child's immediate environment, such as in preschool or primary school. The contact person offers information and guidance on services and ensures that children and guardians have unhindered access to these services. Children, youth, and guardians can contact the school contact person to request integrated services.

The contact person for Engjaskóli is: Olga Hrönn Olgeirsdóttir
