Fjölmenning í grunnskóla

Í mannréttindastefnu Reykjavíkurborgar og stefnu í málefnum barna með íslensku sem annað tungumál er kveðið á um fjölmenningarlega kennsluhætti og að nemendum sé kennt að meta menningarlegan margbreytileika. Í hverjum skóla er að auki gerð móttökuáætlun fyrir börn af erlendum uppruna og einstaklingsáætlun ef þurfa þykir. Til að tryggja barninu farsæla aðlögun í nýju landi þurfa foreldrar og skóli að vinna náið saman. Foreldrafélög starfa í öllum grunnskólum og bekkjarfulltrúar eru kosnir úr hópi foreldra. Foreldrar barna af erlendum uppruna eru hvattir til að vera virkir í foreldrastarfinu.

The City of Reykjavik has issued a policy on the issue of children who have Icelandic as a second language. Emphasis is laid on well organized integration, multicultural teaching methods and the great value of cultural diversity. In every school there is a host program for children of foreign origin and if needed an individual plan is made for each pupil. It is important that parents support their child in developing their language abilities, Icelandic as well as their mother tongue, cultural understanding and social integration. In order to ensure a successful integration parents and schools also need to work closely together. Every school has an active parents´ association and within every class, parents elect class representatives. Foreign parents are particularly encouraged to participate in this work.

W polityce praw człowieka Miasta Reykjavik i polityce dotyczącej dzieci posługujących się islandzkim jako drugim językiem jest mowa o zapewnieniu wielokulturowego nauczaniania oraz o tym, że uczniów uczy się doceniać różnorodność kulturową. Dodatkowo w każdej szkole opracowany jest program powitalny przyjęcia dzieci obcego pochodzenia oraz w razie konieczności indywidualny program nauczania. Rodzice i szkoła muszą ze sobą współpracować, aby zapewnić dziecku pomyślną adaptację w nowym kraju. We wszystkich szkołach działają komitety rodzicielskie/ foreldrafélög oraz reprezentanci klas/ bekkjarfulltrúar, którzy są wybierani spośród rodziców. Rodziców dzieci ze środowisk imigranckich zachecęca się do bycia aktywnym w tych pracach.
