The City Council has approved that as of October 1st, 2016 the fee for meals in kindergartens and compulsory schools will be raised 100 ISK per day.
The increased fee will go entirely to school canteens towards buying better raw materials for the meals. This means increased quality of food served in school canteens in Reykjavík.
Fees in kindergartens for children listed seven to nine hours a day will change from 8.320 ISK a month to 10.480 ISK per month . Prices for meals in compulsory schools changes from 7.100 ISK per month to 9.270 ISK per month.
After the raise the city’s contribution will be on a par with municipalities that provide the best raw material for school canteens. Preschool fees and other fees for children in Reykjavík will still remain among the lowest in the country .
