Exhibition opening, Co-Mix Soundscape, Workshop

The exhibition Erró: More is Beautiful will be opened on Saturday, 18 February at 14h00 at Reykjavík Art Museum, Hafnarhús. On the ground floor the museum will open up a refurbished Living Room, designed by Thomas Pausz. At the opening Artist Curver Thoroddsen will play his Co-Mix Erró Soundscape and later he will lead a Soundscape workshop for families in the Living Room. Curator‘s Talk at 16h00.

The exhibition More is Beautiful shines a special light on Erró´s works which revolve around excess and density. This imaging has been an important part of his art and goes all the way back to his earliest work. More than thirty pieces from the Erró collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum – paintings, collages and movies – show how the artist creates intricate and charged structures which communicate materials related to politics, science, fiction and art history.

Erró was born in Ólafsvík, Iceland, in 1932. After studying in Iceland, at the age of 20 he was admitted to the Oslo Academy of Fine Art, Norway. In 1954 he studied at the Florence Academy of Art and later in Ravenna, Italy, where he focussed on mosaic technique. In 1958 he moved to Paris, France.

In 1989 Erró gave the City of Reykjavík a large collection of his works, a total of about 2,000 items. The collection now numbers about 4,000 works of art. Exhibitions from the Erró collection are a regular fixture at Hafnarhús with the purpose of giving as clear an image as possible of the diverse character of the artist's works.
